Thanks for taking some time to learn a little bit about me :)
First off, I am a singer & musician through and through. Always have been, always will be. My mom jokes (but is maybe serious) that I sang before I spoke. Apparently I would hum the Barney theme song before I ever said my first word. And thus— a singer was born!
As a kid, I did a little bit of everything, musically speaking. I sang in musicals, in All-State and All-Eastern choirs, and even with the Washington National Opera’s Children’s Chorus (which sparked my love of classical singing that I hold to this day!) From singing along with Michelle Branch on the radio, to sitting in opera rehearsals, I loved it all. If it was music, I loved it.
I took private voice and piano lessons, which helped me learn how to read music, understand vocal technique, and express myself musically in the classical sense. I also had a blast teaching myself how to sing & play pop songs on the piano, too. So I had the best of both worlds: structured classical education and music theory, AND the freedom to enjoy pop music on my terms. This combination empowered me and shaped me into the musician I am today.
I’ve received undergrad degrees in Vocal Performance and Italian from the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Musicology from the Catholic University of America, where I was the manager of the Chamber Choir. I’ve taught private voice lessons through my own private studio; at International School of Music and Bullis School in Potomac, MD; and at Belvoir Terrace in the Berkshires. I’ve also taught music at Camp Levine at The Music Center at Strathmore and Blessed Sacrament School in Washington, D.C.
Fast forward to now… I am running this business (yay!) and I am pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree back at my alma mater University of Maryland in Vocal Pedagogy, a fancy way of saying the “art/science of teaching singing.” I also work as a cantor and member of the schola cantorum at the Basilica of St. Mary in Alexandria, VA, where we sing a lot of awesome Gregorian chant and Renaissance polyphony, which satisfies my inner musicology and choir nerd(s).
My teaching style is holistic and all-encompassing because the world of music is way too cool, big, and exciting to only focus on one small part of it. After a lifetime of being a musician and over 7 years of teaching voice and piano to a diverse range of students, I have developed the “Trio”, “Duo” and “Solo” lesson packages. They cover a wide range of skills & principles to empower young people to become well-rounded, independent, and joyful musicians and use the language of music to express their true, unique, and fabulous selves!
I hope that gives you a glimpse into who I am and what I'm passionate about. If you have any questions or want to explore the wonderful world of music together, I’d love to hear from you!
Yours in music,
